These watches are heavily influenced by classical Swiss railway clocks, called the Official Swiss Railways Watch / SBB, with the design licensed from the Swiss Federal Railways in 1986. This design, by Hans Hilfiker, originated in 1944.

Swiss federal Railways
German: Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, SBB
French: Chemins de fer fédéraux suisses, CFF
Italian: Ferrovie federali svizzere, FFS

In 1944 the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) tried to improve the punctuality of their train services by synchronizing the clocks on all railway stations to one master clock, this was achieved by sending time signals via the telephone network to each clock, in 1953 the second hand was added, this was synchronized by running it a little fast by about 1.5 seconds every minute then stopped at the 12 o'clock position to wait for the time signal before advancing the minute hand and resuming.
