YARD O LED
Made in Birmingham, England
The Yard-O-Led Pencil Company was founded in 1934 by a Mr Brenner to produce his unique patent for propelling pencils which contained twelve three inch leads (that is to say, 36 inches or a yard of lead). After the war the pencils had riveted clips and silver and gold pencils were fully hallmarked. In 1955 Yard o Led bought Edward Baker and the first YoL ballpoints were made in the Baker workshops and hallmarked EB. Repairs were carried out in an old building in Soho Hill
Today pens and pencils are only made in Silver at their workshop in Spencer Street, Birmingham. The new firm that owns YOL is Imperial Yard headed by Robin Field, who was previously CEO at Filofax
This is a Yard-O-Led Recorder propelling pencil manufactured from Sterling Silver in a fine lined pattern. It was made in Birmingham, UK, and the hallmark tells us it was made in 1959.
Rotring 800
"Red Ring" Made in Germany
1993 - 800 Series Debut
The new rOtring 800 (initially known as rOtring 600 Gold) line underscores the company’s determination to become a major player, with unique products and an independent design philosophy.
The rOtring 800 is a sleek, metal mechanical pencil with golden elements built with precision and convenience in mind. Designed with a unique ‘twist and click’ retractable mechanism of the entire sleeve and lead, gives the 800 more durability. Also with the rOtring brass mechanism for precision lead advancement, and a fixed lead guidance sleeve to prevent break and offer an unimpeded view of the page for precise ruler—based drawing. The hexagonal barrel ensures fatigue-free writing and drawing, and prevents the pencil from sliding when laid on surfaces. The non-slip metal knurled grip makes sure that the pencil remains safely in hand so there are no accidental slips. There is a built in erase under the push-button cap for quick erasing, to ensure mistakes aren’t permanent.
Rotring freeway
The Freeway Series is the last edition of the Rotring fountain writing instruments. After the acquisition from Newell Rubbermaid in 1998, Rotring started moving away from the production of fountain pens, hence the Freeway was one of their last fountain pen lines made untill 2000. Therefore this pen has some special place in history.
The Freeway comes in four different colours, all in matte finish - blue, ruby red, silver and black, in the freeway range are a fountain pen, rollerball, ballpoint and a mechanical pencil.

Koh-I-Noor
Made in Czech Republic, Bulgaria
Koh-I-Noor’s European roots go back to 1790 when Josef Hardtmuth founded an earthenware factory in Vienna. Clay would be the material from which his pencil empire would be born.
Franz Hardtmuth created the graphite degree system; H, F & B are still the standard designations for artist grade graphite leads. H was chosen to represent the Hardtmuth family name, B for the town of Budweiss where the factory is located, and F for Franz, the inventor of the system.
By 1848 he moved his growing pencil factory to České Budějovice, also known as Budweiss — the same town where Budweiser Beer was founded. It was in this Bohemian hamlet outside of Prague that Koh-I-Noor’s future would be forged.
