Timex, a renowned watch company, has a rich history dating back to its origins in 1854. The company was initially known as the Waterbury Clock Company and was based in Waterbury, Connecticut. It began its journey by manufacturing clocks for the booming American industrial age. However, as the demand for portable timekeeping devices grew, Timex shifted its focus towards producing wristwatches.

Timex made watches in Dundee, Scotland (not England) from the late 1950s until around the end of the 1970s, although at least some of the dials were made in England. By the mid 1970s they were also making them in Taiwan.

The 3 main Timex factories were at Camperdown, Milton of Craigie and Dunsinane, which in their heyday employed many thousands.
