Elliott Bramwell was born in 1850 in Alston Cumberland and became a watchmaker with his brother Thomas in 1871, by 1877 he had moved to Darlington and married Sarah Jane Harbron. In 1881 he had taken on his Brother-in-law, Charles Harbron as an apprentice opening Bramwell and Harbron, a watchmaker’s and jeweller’s shop on Russell Street in Darlington.

By 1891 Elliott was still a watchmaker in Darlington but Charles Harbron had moved to Chester where he was a watchmaker. Elliott died in 1893 leaving 4 sons and 2 daughters, Three of his sons, William, Harry and Louis would become Jewelers in Durham by 1911.
In 1901 Charles Harbron had moved back to Darlington and was trading as a Jeweller, but by 1911 had moved his business to Barnard Castle.

Bramwell and Harbron were still Jewellers and optical dealers at the junction of Russell Street and Northgate untill 1967 when they moved to 67 Skinnergate when the ring road was built.
In about 1975 the shop became Conley's Jewellers when Mappin & Webb bought the shop.
I am unsure when Bramwells Jewellers was opened in Post House Wynd, Darlington by Bill and Jill Bramwell, possibly around the time of the takeover by Mappin & Webb, it finally closed in March 2014.

Bramwells Jewelers in Darlington closed in 2014 while the neighbouring Silver Shop, also operated by the family, will remain open, the store in Durham remains open.
