Welcome to the shed!
In the summer of 2017 in an effort to expand my skills, i set myself the task of building my own weather station and display the output on the internet, this was the result of that challenge.
During the past few months the weather station has had to be dismantled as it required some repairs so most of the weather pages have now gone.
This has also given me an opportunity to look over the content of the site and decide which direction the site will take.
I'm a retired Telecomms Engineer and I now spend most of my time perusing my life long hobby of photography.
I am now based in County Durham, North East England, I was born in the East Midlands and spent many years travelling with the Royal Air Force.
County Durham is considered by many as the 'Birthplace of the Railways' and still has many places where the railway history can still be found.
It is my goal to compile a collection of photographs and produce maps of existing historical railway infrastructure in County Durham.
About the site
This web site has been built from scratch by myself, except the Gallery page which is generated by a script by Yuri D'Elia
and can be found Here.
The site is self hosted at home and runs on a Raspberry Pi, it may not be the best but it is all my own work.
40E was originally the designation of a railway motive power depot in Colwick, Nottingham, where my father started work at the end of World War 2 as an engine cleaner,
and almost 20 years later became an engine driver. The site logo (40E) represents a plate fitted to the front of a steam locomotive to show it's home depot (Shed).
It has been re-purposed for my own personal internet branding, and is dedicated to my father.
